Galeazzi fracture rehabilitation8/10/2023 ![]() The incidence, mechanism, and management of Galeazzi fracture were extensively reported through case series by Riccardo Galeazzi. Galeazzi fracture-dislocation was first described by Sir Astley Cooper in 1822 as distal third fracture of the radius with distal radioulnar joint dislocation. The spectrum of such fractures includes isolated radius and ulna fractures, combined fractures, Galeazzi and Monteggia fractures. These fractures are relatively complex than other long bone fractures. The forearm fractures are one of the common fractures seen in both children and adults. Proper management of such fractures is necessary to restore forearm functions, including supination and pronation, elbow and wrist movements, and handgrip strength. Besides, the two bones themselves form joints that help in supination and pronation therefore, forearm fractures are considered intra-articular fractures. The forearm consists of two relatively parallel bones that connect two joints: elbow and wrist. Explain the various treatment options for patients with forearm fractures, along with the complications anticipated.Identify the various radiological investigations required for diagnosing forearm fractures.Describe the common presentation of a patient with forearm fractures.Summarize the most common etiologies of forearm fractures. This activity reviews the evaluation and management of forearm fractures and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in evaluating and managing patients with this condition. The forearm fractures are usually managed by surgical fixation, including closed reduction or open reduction and internal fixation. The presenting symptoms include acute pain and swelling, and local tenderness and visible deformity at the site of trauma are seen on examination. Such injuries may occur as a result of direct as well as indirect trauma. Forearm fractures are very commonly seen in trauma and emergency, especially in the pediatric age group. ![]()
